It is now widely known as a seasonal carol. The tune is given a majestic treatment, yet still embodies a gentle, lilting rhythm. Estimated Performance Time: 2:00 Technical Notes: The convertible bass line is labeled "Flexible Bass Line (optional)". The keyboard percussion part is labeled "Mallet Percussion" and is for bells. The timpani part should be played on timpani pitched in B Flat and E Flat. The 1st percussion part is for woodblock, snare drum and bass drum. The 2nd percussion part is for triangle, sleigh bells and suspended cymbals.   A simple key change at measure 24 will merit attention in rehearsal. This is followed by a shift to the lower woodwinds and brass for melodic prominence at measure 26. Clarinets can still play quite full here. The bass instruments will likewise have their melodic opportunity at measure 31.   Observe staccato articulations on eighth notes at measure 39 to give the upper woodwinds and trumpets a lift, as the lower half of the band maintains a sustained harmonic texture.
