Patapan
Shelley Hanson has created a beautiful holiday work with the use of two popular tunes, "Patapan" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen". These two songs together make one very beautiful work. The rhythms in the work are tricky. It will take some practicing to get them figured out and up to the tempo needed. The percussion parts are very important as they create the wonderful atmosphere of the work. "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" enters in about the middle of the work and it is a beautiful thing. The texture is just amazing. You and your students will really enjoy performing this piece. Technical Notes: Two of the first alto saxophone parts also contain a soprano saxophone part that is meant to be doubled. The percussion 1 part is for bodhran or timbales. The percussion 2 part is for tambourine, triangle, suspended cymbal, crash cymbal, finger cymbal, tam-tam, and snare drum. The percussion 3 part is for bass drum. The percussion 4 part is for xylophone, marimba, vibes, and bells. Composer(s): This piece was composed by Shelley Hanson. Publisher: This piece was published by Boosey & Hawkes. Series: This piece is part of the series "Boosey & Hawkes Windependence Series".
