The Thunderer
Sousa's classic "The Thunderer" has been simplified for your beginning band. Careful attention to ranges and rhythms greatly assists with teaching. Technical Notes: John Philip Sousa was born in Washington, D.C., November 6, 1854, and began studying music as the early age of six. He published his first piece at the age of 18 and became the leader of the Marine Band when he was just 26. It was during the tenure that Sousa composed many of his most famous marches, including "The Gladiators", "Semper Fidelis", "The Washington Post", and "The Thunderer". Throughout his illustrious career, Sousa wrote more than 130 marches in addition to numerous operettas, suites, songs, and transcriptions.
