From the talented pen of Mike Hannickel, this concert piece is easy and fun to perform, and will give you a great opportunity to tie your beginning band's performance literature into a "classroom" subject. Technical Notes: According to Greek mythology, a fifty-oared ship named "Argo" sailed on an "Epic Voyage Of Adventure" in quest of a "golden fleece". A long list of ancient Greek heroes made up the crew of the "Argo." Collectively, they were called "Argonauts". They proceeded to earn a place of great honor in the mythology, and in ancient times it was a mark of distinction to be able to claim that an ancestor had sailed with "The Argonauts".   Written for the Pre-Grade 1 band, "The Argonauts" incorporates very limited ranges and rhythmic structures. While the beginning should be rather grand, the middle section, starting at measure 21, should be a distinct contrast. Be sure that the instruments playing the repeated quarter note pattern do not outweigh the melodic instruments that enter in measure 23. Notice the inclusion of no-more-than-one easy accidental per instrument in the transitory section from measures 31 to 36.   The 1st percussion parts are marked for snare drum and bass drum. There is an optional advanced percussion 1 part included in this band set. The 2nd percussion part is marked for crash cymbals. The mallet percussion part is optional and written for bells.
