Sea Song Trilogy
We are proud to bring you one of Anne McGinty's finest works, the "Sea Song Trilogy". This fabulous medley features three seldom heard sea songs: "Johnny Come Down To Hilo", "The Sailor's Alphabet" and "Sailing At High Tide". As part of a "themed" program, or as concert material for any production, "Sea Song Trilogy" is the best! Estimated Performance Time: 2:30 Technical Notes: The oboe part is labeled "Oboe (Optional)". The French horn part is labeled "Horn in F (Optional)". The cymbals part is labeled "Crash Cymbals". Set a metronome at 132 and play it for the band to help reinforce the relatively fast tempo at which this piece begins. Keep the tonguing light and rhythmical so that the tempo is not dragged down by sluggish and heavy tonguing. The cymbal player should be instructed in proper playing technique so the cymbal crashes are convincing and not muffled. The tempo at measure 31 should not be played too slowly, as both the accompaniment and the melody should flow in a singing style, with enough separation so that the repeated notes are easily heard, but not so much that it sounds choppy. If the alto saxophone solo at measure 51 is not easily heard, decrease the dynamic to piano and/or limit the number of players on the accompaniment. The Allegro tempo at measure 55 is the same as the beginning. The snare drum crescendo at measure 57-58 should be subtle, from p to mp. At measure 75 the accompanying quarter notes followed by quarter rests should be held slightly less than full value. Arranger(s): This piece was arranged by Anne McGinty. Publisher: This piece was published by Boosey & Hawkes.
