Distant Journey
Paul Lavender has created a powerful sounding work for beginners to sink their teeth into with this piece. It makes use of brash open harmonies and bold tutti rhythms, all while using only quarter and half notes. Your beginning band will sound great with only a few rehearsals. Your students can become familiar with this piece listening to the included CD which features "Distant Journey", along with several other selections. This piece is correlated with the Essential Elements 2000 Band Method and is playable after the band has reached book 1, page 11. Technical Notes: Any one of alto clarinet, bass clarinet, baritone saxophone, trombone, baritone, bassoon or tuba will provide an adequate bass line.
