A Flourish (for Symphonic Wind Band) - BAND SET

187 pages, Item number JBQ41974CC, $105.95

A Flourish for Orchestra, written to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the granting of a charter to the City of Bristol, shows Malcolm Arnold at his best in producing music for festive occasions. The work starts with a resounding splash of color in the percussion over which the woodwinds play an upward flourish leading to a resplendent fanfare in the brass. This idea is repeated with slight changes of color until it leads to a typical Malcolm Arnold big tune. These two ideas are then interchanged and after a long pedal F we are given a full and rich final statement of the tune. The short coda is led by the percussion where the opening sound of tubular bells and glockenspiel underpin the jubilant ending. (4:00)

Paul Lavender has skillfully arranged this stadium anthem so that even beginning bands can "rock on". The "Hey" song is a great motivational piece for younger players.
