James Curnow's adaptations of classic works for younger groups have become standard literature for many directors who seek the highest quality works for their younger groups. This edition of Respighi's famous finale to "The Pines Of Rome" is a real gem, putting the original's power and majesty within the reach of most bands.

Estimated Performance Time: 4:45

Technical Notes: When approaching this piece one must remember that it is basically a continuous crescendo from beginning to end. Care must be given to developing the crescendo gradually, being cautious that the climax to the crescendo does not arrive too soon. Also, good intonation and intensity must be maintained throughout to help build the crescendo. Dynamics are carefully indicated and must be closely observed to heighten the dramatic effects of the composition.

Although this band rendition is scored for younger players, the movement is presented in its entirety. It is advisable to obtain one of the many fine recordings of the original orchestral work to play for the student players. This will help them to understand the intensity and drama of the music.
